Possible covid - vision issues

Me and my daughter (9) are both ill with a horrible virus. The reason I think maybe covid is my smell is off and some other very odd symptoms. We're both pretty unwell, daughter had a high temp, which has now come down and has been intermittently being sick for 2 days. We both have bad headaches, congestion and aching. Unusually we both seem to have odd vision and hearing changes, like poor night vision and sensitivity to light. My vision feels really off but I can't really explain how. I have a feeling like my hearing is reduced while my head is being squeezed. Daughter thought our neighbours dog sounded like a cuckoo. I keep struggling to process things and keep getting confused. Our balance is very off. I also have a sore throat and a cough. The sinus, eye and head pressure is quite bad compared to a normal cold.

I think I should probably call the gp this morning but I'm doubtful they will see both of us. I've not had a very good run lately and feel like they will dismiss me. Partner is picking up some covid tests later on.

I’d be worried about meningitis if you’re very light sensitive. Does either of you have a rash or blotchy skin?

Greysowhat · 18/11/2025 06:33

I'd say the congestion could be causing the distortion in your hearing, maybe vision too if your sinuses are affected. Do you have any decongestants in the house? Get partner to pick some up when he goes for the Covid tests. Although it sounds more like a flu or some other virus than Covid. Hope you both feel better soon

PersephoneParlormaid · 18/11/2025 06:34

Sounds like you might have a sinus infection, but meningitis is a thought for light sensitivity.
last time I was ill I lost my taste, but covid test was negative, so it’s not a given.

There’s a particularly nasty virus going around at the moment which seems to affect people in different ways. My adult DS was really ill last month, tested negative for Covid, still ill 1 week later and tested positive, it really floored him for around 10 days, his GP gave steroids and antibiotics because he has asthma. His GF had similar symptoms but never tested positive. I doubt the GP will give you anything for a virus.

What I have seen is you have reddened eyes with COVID. Could be alsorts and needs proper diagnosis

RealLifeClanger · 18/11/2025 06:52

I didn't consider meningitis as neither of us currently have a high temperature. Surely we wouldn't both have it? I don't think it's massively severe or I probably wouldn't be able to use my phone in this dark room.

I will mention the light sensitivity to the gp though, hopefully that might get us seen.

I’ve had something similar for about five days now. Covid tests negative but everything else you describe as well as incredible itchy, especially on chest and trunk area.

MassiveOvaryaction · 18/11/2025 11:50

Do you have a carbon monoxide detector?

Delatron · 18/11/2025 12:15

It sounds like Covid - it can cause all sorts of issues with hearing, vision, it can cause brain fog. It affects so many systems of the body.

RealLifeClanger · 18/11/2025 15:43

@MassiveOvaryaction yes, we have 3 no less!

@Delatron I'm deaf anyway and have gone even deafer, it's so frustrating. Tinnitus is raging.

@LambriniBobInIsleworthISeesYa grim isn't it. Covid test was negative but they always seem hit and miss for me so wait for my partner and daughter to do theirs before I decide if it's accurate or not.

Ah that's good at least.

How are you feeling today?

RealLifeClanger · 20/11/2025 16:17

@MassiveOvaryaction we're all much improved thanks. My ears are still buggered and can't hear much. Also still congested & coughing a bit but otherwise much better. Was very unpleasant for a few days though. Daughter is also pretty much recovered. My partner got it too but nowhere near as bad.
