Ectopic pregnancy - Will it happen again?

Had my first child with IVF, then got pregnant naturally after that but the pregnancy was ectopic and had to have a tube removed. I've now fallen pregnant again (only about 3 weeks). I know my tubes are definately damaged cause thats why i had to have IVF. Has anyone had or know of someone who's been in the same position? I'm trying to be positive but i'm worried sick. Any advice would be appreciated - thanks

elliemac, I think statistically you are more likely to have another ectopic than someone who has never had one. BUT, as the chance of having an ectpic normally is very small (about 1% I think), even if you are five times more likely to have one now then your new probability is still small (say 5% chance which is still not very likely). I have had an ectopic & tube removed followed by 2 healthy pregnacies and it is worrying - do insist on an early scan at 5 or 6 weeks(it should be automatic, but isn't always) but hopefully all will be well.

My best friend (apart from dh) and his wife had loads of problems she finally got pregnant and very sadly it was an ectopic and she lost a tube. But after further IVF they are now expecting twins in August.

So it can all end happily, though I must admit that I keep on praying and will not feel entirely relaxed the babies are here.

If you haven't already, it's worth visiting the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust forums at www.ectopic.org.uk and posing the question on their Main Board. Good luck, I do hope all is OK for you.
