Mucus cough that won’t go.. nothings working!

Has anyone else had this mucus cough that just will not go?!

I’ve had it over a month now. I’ve tried cough medicines, inhalers, even prescribed antibiotics but it’s not changing? I’m not ill with a cold or anything. I did have a little one but not anymore.. just seem to be coughing all day long and sometimes I’m coughing up mucus but it’s definitely a productive cough.

don’t know what to do.. doctor listened to my chest Thursday last week and said it’s clear but due to length of time was given antibiotics.
I can’t say I noticed a difference if any, I’ve finished them now. Maybe was slightly better for a couple of days?? Then today it seems crap again.

any advice :(

Haven’t read the rest of the thread, but the supplement NAC is good for this. Obviously check with a dr first to make sure it’s safe for you with any conditions or meds you take.

I had a mucus cough which wouldn't shift. Dr suggested acid reflux. Omeprazole worked!

Anyone that has had pneumonia what is your experience once finished the course of antibiotics?

I definitely felt tons better 2/3 days after starting them, still tired and coughing a lot but felt better in myself.

i probably went back to work too quickly, as I’ve then spent the last 4/5 days since so tired, coughing so much still. it’s still a very productive cough, albeit the mucus isn’t bright yellow anymore. So the antibiotics have definitely helped but I kinda expected to feel completely well by now maybe with a little irritated cough?

the amount of comments I’m getting from people around me saying I sound terrible still, I don’t think I or them understand the severity of pneumonia.

im wondering if I need to go back to the doctor tomorrow with my symptoms or if it’s just a case of it is what is if, infection is gone but it’s going to take a while? Any advice welcome 🫩

Oh, to add I now sound like I have laryngitis as well like my voice is going? Haven’t got a sore throat. Not sure if it’s another cold on top of this or what.. but I am miserable as hell 😭

i decided to take myself up the hospital again today as I did not feel right, I was hot and cold, clammy, coughing a lot more and looked very pale.

ive Been admitted with IV antibiotics being administered (different to ones already had)
doctor just come to see me and said my chest xray has improved, but my infection markers are higher so they aren’t sure really what is going on :(

just need to stay in and see what they say tomorrow :( so fed up of all of this

I’m not entirely sure tbh.
I was discharged yesterday so assuming my bloods come back good that infection markers had dropped. Felt okay in myself just the cough but mucus I was coughing up wasn’t yellow anymore..

however the iv antibiotics I was on aren’t available in tablet form, so I’ve been given two different types of antibiotics and steroid tablets to take at home.

I feel like I’m coughing up more today, I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing (I’m either producing more again, or it’s all coming up?) but it’s yellow again.. so now I’m paranoid the oral antibiotics just aren’t enough and that I should have been kept in for the IV course to be finished..

I don’t even know anymore 😭😢

Ahh bless you. If you still feel the same in a couple of days I’d call your GP. Mine was seeing me twice a week for a while after I came out of hospital.

Yeah I will do.
I am SO incredibly miserable. I miss my son so much. He’s with his dad at the moment as I know single parenting is going to be a challenge, I get out of breath walking up the stairs, I feel exhausted, just feel like I’ve aged about 30 years and feel incapable. I just want some normality back 😢

I’ve done nothing but lay in bed, barely speak, only getting up for food and the toilet.. so I’m praying I start to have more energy really soon cos this is just so so miserable 😢

the doctor signed me off work until Monday next week, so I’ve had a good chance to rest without feeling too guilty for it, as I’ve needed the rest so much.

im not 100% back to normal, im still coughing a bit (mainly morning until after afternoon) until I’ve cleared anything there which is so minimal now. And feeling stronger in myself, still very tired but definitely an improvement from the start of the week for sure!

I’ve got some lung function tests in a couple of weeks so hopefully that may indicate why I’ve had a couple of episodes of this now x

Have you tried antihistamine? Also make pear juice from boiling pears x it really helps x
