Retinal detachment

Please tell me your (ideally positive) experiences of having a retinal detachment! I had emergency re-attachment surgery at the start of the week and I’m now resting to recover. Keep thinking I’m going to go blind either in that eye or my ‘good eye’ & trying to be brave (but fear is taking over at times) so any advice / hints / tips etc would be much appreciated TIA!

I had surgery in August, like you I was worried but after about a week, the gas bubble began to get smaller and i could see again, the nurses had told me it would be like a blind going down, every day I could see a bit more. I had a check up after 2 weeks and everything was healing well, I am now swimming and driving again but I would advise you to only do as much as you feel able to. I think I will need a new glasses prescription as it has changed slightly but I'm waiting until after my next check up in December.

Thank you so much for replying & so glad to hear your eye is a lot better. I can’t really see anything through it at all & not sure when to expect some sort of vision but good to hear your experience.

My DH had surgery at end of August. Took longer than expected for the gas bubble to dissipate and his sight to return, and his eye prescription has changed but he's now fully recovered.
The surgery sounds awful though, I feel for you and wish you a speedy recovery.

Thank you! Did he need a 2nd surgery or it worked, just took longer to be able to see again?
