Pelvic pain, night sweats and aches. Gave birth 3 weeks ago. Is it an infection ??

I gave birth to ds 3 weeks ago.

For the last 2 nights I have been hot and cold and sweaty - and ached all over. I have also had shooting pains in the area just above my bikini line - and these are getting more regular.

I have rang the maternity unit and they have said it sounds viral and to take paracetemol. I could understand that advice if I was just suffering the sweats and aches, but am more worried about the pelvic pain, which is happening all the time, not just at night.

Has anyone had this ??

I had stitches but they have healed. I am not breast feeding.

Feeling very low trying to look after dd while dh upstairs with ds

I think you should actually go and see a doctor - you need someone to examine you properly.

Are you still bleeding? Does it have a funny colour or odd smell? That can also be a sign of infection.

I think so too, but dont know where to go with it being Saturday. Maybe I will ring and find out where the out of hours surgery is.

M bleeding has nearly stopped but it doesn't smell. It is an orangey colour.

I just saw on the net that womb infection (pelvic inflammatory disorder) can cause fever and abdominal discomfort. Maybe that is it ?

I really don't know what it could be, that's why you need to see a doctor. Either phone the out of hours service or phone NHS direct and they should advise you where you should go.

I had really bad night sweats and was also worried about infection. Mine were just "lactation sweats" and happened when my bf went to pot and was tailing off. i would wake up cold clammy then hot and sweating - so much so that my bed sheets were soaking - really unpleasant.

Hopefully that is all you are going through and the pelvic pain is just post birth pains.

But get yourself checked out.Can you phone NHS 24 - they are great here and always get you an out of hours appointment that day/night.

Hope it's all okay.

Fab. I had horrendous night sweats with dc3 for about 8 months!!!! I did not have any pelvic pain though so getting checked out is the best thing to do.

yes, see the doc. You can take certain antibiotics while bfing too. I had to for mastitis.

belgo · 07/06/2008 17:35

how are you now looby?

beautifulgirls · 07/06/2008 20:06

Hope you got on ok. I had bad cystitis without the burning after I had dd#2, and I felt terrible until I got antibiotics. The night sweats too but they were hormonal and eventually settled down ok.
