Scabies - it’s back

DH and I had scabies in spring/ summer. Realistically I probably had it from end of April, but thought it was hormonal, or dry skin etc. Eventually we both did the cream treatment (two does a week apart); and although we were still itching hideously we waited it out because all the info says ‘it gets worse before it gets better’. Obviously washed everything within an inch of its life constantly. After 4 weeks we did the double cream treatment again, waited again. A few weeks later we went to the doctor to be told there is a ‘permethrin resistant strain’ and we were give tablets, which we took (again 2 doses, a week apart). This seemed to have cured it (this was end of July). In August I found some really dry patches of skin but was told it was execema (and steroid cream seemed to work). Anyway, a few weeks ago, it can back. DH started itching first and worst; I was a bit itchy (but I tend to feel itchy when others scratch and didn't really have anything visible). We did double cream again and have just been back to the doctors and go more tablets.
Will this go on forever? Has anyone else experienced this?
TIA

Mine ran along after multiple treatments, strangely using an IPL hair removal device (was using anyway) cleared it up. I checked and haven't seen any references to this but seemed to work for me.
