Indigestion (I think)

I’m wondering if anyone can advise regarding my symptoms on this.
I have had indigestion/heart burn for several years. I first went to the doctors a couple of years ago following a prolonged cough which was just put down to indigestion (no medication/advice etc).
Over the past couple of years the symptoms have gradually become more unbearable.
the acid seems to affect my taste buds but more recently I have been having chest pains.in the middle of my chest
I have tried over the counter meds but it only relieves a bit.
i am finding it extremely hard to book a doctor’s appt given that I am commuting at the only available time slot for appts.
is it normal to experience this much discomfort?
My doctor was very dismissive previously.

Don’t be fobbed off. Get an appointment and really stress how much heartburn you are having. In the meantime, try lifestyle changes, such as losing weight, not drinking alcohol, identifying trigger foods, eating smaller meals, raising the head of your bed. It sounds like you need a course of a PPI. You can buy Nexium OTC, I would try that to see if it helps. You could then tell the GP.
