Periods suddenly very irregular

Hi all. Regular poster but name changed for this.
My periods have always been very regular. Every 26-28 days like clockwork. However, over the past year or so they've become very irregular, with my cycles ranging in length from just 18 to 60 days! The heaviness of the bleeding has also varied, sometimes it's heavy with clots (sorry, TMI) and other times it's more like spotting. Not sure what is going on!
I have also been getting bad headaches, but that could be unrelated. I am only 29 so surely not menopause? I am going to see my GP soon but was just wondering if anyone else had had the same?

Thank you 😊

Push for a GP appointment ASAP. Insist on one.
It might be stress, it might be something serious.
Don't be fobbed off with a prescription for the pill.

Something is definitely up, nobody can say what it could be - do you have any other symptoms? It could be a hormone issue like PCOS or endometriosis but it could be a number of other things. You definitely need a blood test or hormone panel done. Good luck!

Thank you. I have been very tired and getting headaches but that's probably more down to not drinking enough water and being a busy working mum of two! Aside from that and wacky periods, nothing out of the ordinary.

Get it checked out. You've given it a year.

Please get checked by the GP.

Hi all, just thought I'd update. Saw GP today and she was very thorough. She says it could be stress but there could also be something hormonal underlying, so she's sent me for a full hormone panel blood test, which I'll be having next week. Fingers crossed it isn't anything and I'm just being a stress head! Thanks for all the replies.

Glad you have been seen. I was experiencing similar and for me, it turned out to be my thyroid function.

Hope you get some answers soon.

Hi all, another update for you all.

Had my blood test Wednesday, just had a phone call from the GP saying doctor wants to see me to discuss results! Been booked in for the 24th. Bit worrying but surely if it was anything urgent they'd want to see me quicker?

My daughter 43 thinks she's going through menopause because her periods are irregular. Reading this thread could it be something else. She has had a gastric balloon fitted I wonder if that might be something that's affecting her.

Another update for you guys.

Seem GP, most of my results were fine which is a relief, but my iron was low (not really surprised) and my testosterone was also high. So I've been referred to endocrinology and gynaecology to query possible PCOS. Apparently it could take up to 6 months to be seen though 🤣 But at least it doesn't seem to be anything too worrying!
