Splinter removal tips please............

FAQ · 05/06/2008 19:44

DS2 (4) announced just after his bath that he'd got a splinter in his finger. Apparently he got it this morning at nursery, but it didn't hurt, so he didn't cry, therefore he didn't tell the nursery teachers......

It's well and truly "under the skin" so to speak and I'm at a loss at how to get it out (been a long time since I had to deal with any splinters). He's gone to bed now as he was in tears at my pathetic attempts to remove it and we're going to try again in the morning (when he's not so tired - therefore hopefully not so tearful).

What's the easiest/best way of doing it??

I second Magnesium Sulphate paste.

DS had a splinter in his finger recently and would scream if I went anywhere near it so on advice from MN archives I slapped on the paste, stuck a plaster on (put more paste on and changed plaster once or twice a day) and it came out in a few days.

FAQ if its not above the surface slightly then other than a bit of a squeeze (without your LO screaming the place down !) the area will become infected and that is the bodies way of rejecting the splinter, it should then burst.

Boyz, know what you mean and its escaped me too. Poo

Is is magnesium sulphate paste ?

VaginaShmergina · 05/06/2008 19:54

Poo too late, but there in print is the beauty of MN.......

Problem solved in 9 minutes

well just a tiny squeeze had him in floods of tears, silent ones, but literally dripping off his face .

May try some of this MS paste then........
