Why do I keep getting headaches

They are sort of dull throbbing ache rather than stabbing and usually around the temple. Sometimes on the left and sometimes on the right but never at the same time. I've had my eyes tested so I don't think it's that, and since it moves around I don't think it's anything really awful so what is it? Sometimes they last for 2 days. It's horrible. I am 47 and until recently never used to get a headache unless unwell. Could it be hormonal? And if so should I speak to the doctor about HRT maybe? I assume I'm in peri given my age.

I would say hormonal or allergy. I never get headaches but suddenly got them on the pill. Stopped the pill and so did the headaches .
BF had proper headaches with no obvious cause . Turned out it was nuts that he had a reaction to.

Could it be from jaw clenching/teeth grinding, especially in your sleep? I get sore temples when I have a tmj flare up

Sexentric · 21/10/2025 21:51

Hmm. Could be teeth grinding actually. I did used to have a gun shield bc the dentist said I grinding my teeth. I barely used it though because it made me dribble! I have been quite stressed. I wonder if that would make it worse

Ha! A gum shield obviously not a gun one

I had daily banging headaches which I woke up with every morning until I got a Michigan splint for my bruxism that changed my life. I also get hormonal headaches and def think that could be causing yours too.

If you’re concerned go see a doctor, not one person on here can tell you why your having headaches

Chafing · 21/10/2025 21:58

For me it was high blood pressure. Have you had a check recently?

Blossoms217 · 21/10/2025 22:15

I get them every month when I'm due on, absolutely awful so it could be that.
i had them daily when my iron was low too.

There is a pattern i think of being worse before my period. I'm going to.keep a diary and see. I also do think the teeth grinding might be a thing. As I write this i notice I'm sort of clenching my jaw.

I have found that a dagger-type pain in the temple is hormonal in my case. Have found ibuprofen lysine helpful (is in feminax but much cheaper if you buy generic).
