NHS hosptials - weekend operations?

Does nayone know if operations are done at weekends at nhs hosptials?

I think some do them. Depends on the op. Some hospitals have special weekend clinics for certain procedures eg: minor eye surgery. Emergency operations carry on at all times but generally at the weekends there aren't any planned big operations (like heart surgery or removal of tumours) because the staffing levels are lower. Hope that helps.

It's for a breast reduction. private hosp can do on a saturday which is best for me cos of getting ds looked after. just wondered if any chnace of nhs hosp doing this on saturdays?

Generally private hospitals do ops at the weekend as thats when the surgeons aren't working in the NHS. Unlikely that an NHS hospital would be doing breast reductions on a Saturday though, for this very reason.

thanks for all your replies. think best to have it done privately as easier to get someone to look after ds at the weekend!
