Struggling post thyroidectomy

hello,

I’ve been in and out of GP appointments recently after having a total thyroidectomy in November 2024. For background, I’m 25 years old and I found a lump on my thyroid that they couldn’t determine was cancerous or not till they took it out. Luckily, it was a benign tumour- but now living without a thyroid is proving difficult.
My T3 and T4 levels have just got into the normal range but my TSH is still very high. I’m on 200mg now and due a review in November. On top of this my iron storage (ferritin) is at 7.5 which apparently is also very low.

I am constantly plagued with headaches and low energy. Sometimes I can’t bring myself to get out of the car after driving for a while I’m that tired.

I keep having to take unpaid sick days due to the fatigue and headaches but now I’m suffering financially and it’s effecting my previous mental health conditions- my anxiety/ feelings of depression are now symptomatic.

I guess I’m just looking for some advice on moving forward, or some reassurance that I’m not the only one suffering like this. I feel like it’s a constant monthly waiting game to see if my body is adjusting as it should be to various tablets, and I feel terrible for calling in sick

I suggest you go to thyroid UK which is great for support.

I have a very under active thyroid and it took a really long time to get things in balance after diagnosis, so hang in there.
