PoTs and peri

As the title says, I've been diagnosed with PoTs at 43 following positive tilt table test, heart rate which increases more than 40bpm from sitting to standing and other symptoms. Referred to cardiology which ruled out anything sinister (had echo, ecg, xray, cardiac mri etc). And blood all normal including b12, ferritin, thyroid etc.

My question is does anyone with PoTs experience any of these symptoms? I've been having them for almost a year now and the first one bothers me the most.

  • breathless at rest, coincidences with low bp (100/60). What's odd about this is it doesn't happen every day, somedays my BP is fine and I don't feel breathless.
  • palpitations after eating

Anyone experience any of these symptoms? Cardio said they are worsened by peri

I have pots and peri. I don’t get the breathlessness but do sometimes get worse palpitations after eating. Especially a big meal or certain types of food. Finding the right HRT was a big piece of the puzzle for stabilising my symptoms.

My issues are more related to low bp and breathless. I also have terrible health anxiety so now I'm worried these symptoms aren't PoTs but something worse. What I can't understand is why on some days I feel OK (bp good at 115/70) but then other times, my BP is low and I feel like I have air hunger (bp then usually 100/60)

Have they ruled out iron deficiency?

Bluebells82 · 13/10/2025 20:14

Yes, iron, ferritin, b12 everything normal (b12 350 so quite good).

Are you drinking enough water ?

MassiveOvaryaction · 13/10/2025 21:10

Not the breathlessness but absolutely yes to the palpitations/raised heart rate after eating, especially carbs.

You might find this recent thread useful on Pots and how it triggers anxiety. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/general_health/5425340-anyone-else-with-tachycardiaheart-murmurectopics?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=app_share

Air hunger is a pretty common pots/dysautonomia symptom. I think it can be related to the vagus nerve. Maybe not quite the same but sometimes I feel like I constantly have to yawn and can’t quite satisfy my need for air. The only way to deal with it is breathing exercises and then trying not to think about it.

Bluebells82 · 19/10/2025 07:45

@birdbrained that's exactly how I feel, yawning and trying to get in a satisfying breath. Someday I'm fine but other days I notice it at alot and it doesn't seem to be related to sitting, standing etc.
