How often do you taken Sumatriptan?

Hi

I used to take sumatriptan maybe 3 times a month for hormonal migraine. I’d take them during my 7 day break on the pill.

I’m now 44, and for the past year I’m probably taking double that, if not more. I’ve started running 4 pill packets back to back on the advice of the GP (to keep hormones up without the break), but if anything it’s getting worse, and probably peri menopause.

I know sumatriptan is safe, but to me it feels like a strong medication and I worry about taking it too often. How often do you take it please?

thanks

During peri menopause I went from occasional 2-3 times a months to maybe 6 a month, mostly used in the run up before my period. The tablets were useless, the nasal version helped for a while, but I ended up needing the injections.
After hysterectomy and on HRT, I now only use them once in a blue moon -yet the neurologist I was under claimed hormones don’t affect frequency of migraines 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’ve never heard of the nasal version - I’ll look into that.

Probably doubled the more peri I have got. Just started HRT so intrigued to know how that will affect things.

My only concern has been rebound headaches, but I don’t think that generally is a concern until 10+ usages per month.
