Gunk on inner eyelid

I have had conjunctivitis many times over the years. This doesn’t look like conjunctivitis. No swelling, bumps or itching. Just a line of yellow gunk on the inner rim of my upper eyelids. Any idea what could be causing this? Could it be an allergy?

It sounds like an infection rather than an allergy. You would have red itchy eyes without gunk if you were allergic to something.

Thanks @WatchingTheDetective. I will send photos to the doctor when it happens again. It’s not there all the time which is a bit strange.

It sounds like a pseudomembrane - have a google to check. It's basically a line of dead inflammatory cells
They can be caused by a lot of things, infections/allergies/foreign bodies.

It's slightly worrying that you keep getting conjunctivitis too though? How often do you get it and are you a contact lens wearer?

Do your tear ducts need flushing? You shouldn't be getting conjunctivitis so frequently.

Blocked tear ducts in adults would be an extremely rare cause of conjunctivitis!

I had an operation as a child to open up my tear ducts because I kept getting eye infections. Perhaps this could be the problem. It doesn’t look like conjunctivitis that I’ve had before. My eyes aren’t red and my lashes aren’t stuck together in the morning. Maybe I’m getting foundation in my eye somehow. It’s only on the inward part of the upper rim. It looks like I have drawn a line with eye pencil until you look closely. I’m going to monitor it this week to see how often it happens.

I have had problems with post nasal drip for the last few years. I’m wondering if this could be connected.
