I'm having a rough time with a uti and was given nitrofurantoin for 3 days (which I stopped half way through due to side effects), pivmecillinam for 5 days, then slow release nitrofurantoin for 7 days. I took a probiotic yeast called s boulardii for 4 or 5 days during the first 2 courses as it's supposed to help prevent antibiotic diarrhoea.
I now have really bad oral and vaginal thrush. The oral thrush seems to have affected my throat as well. It also feels like my eyes and all the skin on my body is burning slightly and when I have a shower it hurts my eyes and skin. My skin looks quite dry everywhere but no obvious signs of fungal infection. Yesterday it felt like a layer of skin rubbed off my knees just from the friction of my trousers and they were red and burning. I'm so worried I've damaged myself by taking the s boulardii yeast with antibiotics. The thrush has also affected my lips and some skin was flaking off my face but it's not that noticeable. It feels like it's affecting my whole body but I don't know if that's even possible? Gp gave me nystatin and also canesten but they are dismissive of my other concerns with my skin and eyes.
I still have 4 days left on the nitrofurantoin and feel like crap :/
Also to note, the uti bacteria is Citrobacter, which can be tricky to treat and I'm now worried about my immune system as apparently this bacteria and oral thrush often affect immunocompromised people.
