Yes - I've had about 20 dubious looking moles removed and all have been OK to date.

I'm currently on the 2 week pathway for yet another one. The imaging was done last week and I'm now waiting for the verdict.

Thank you, I’ve got have pictures done on Friday, feeling really nervous and scared it was flat and now raised on one side; have you ever had any like that

Yes, happened to me. Was removed by dermatology and biopsied and turned out non cancerous.

TheWytch · 08/10/2025 20:41

I have them in every shape, size and colour!

Many have uneven pigmentation, irregular outlines and are lumpy and bumpy. All the so called warning signs. So far all have been OK .even the "funny" looking ones. If they were malignant then I'd have been dead decades ago. The current cause for concern is tiny, has uneven pigment and just produced a black crust which then fell off but it does look a bit irritated. The GP thinks it's probably OK but worth getting checked.

Try not to worry too much (easier said than done I know). You are doing the right thing getting it checked.

So many people have moles of weird shapes and sizes and colours. Moles can appear, and change, some can itch. All of these things can be normal.

A very small minority of those will be cancerous. But there's no way of knowing WHICH without having them tested, which is why they have to be thorough.

Don't worry.

Even if it is cancerous, most of the time it'll just be removed and that's that.

TheWytch · 08/10/2025 20:52

Hard to say from the pictures but it doesn't look any odder than some of mine do!

The warning signs you are told to look out for are just that - potential warning signs. Just because a mole exhibits some or all of them doesn't automatically mean it's a melanoma. The only way to tell is an expert looking at it via a dermatoscope followed by a biopsy if there is any doubt. Hopefully they will be able to put your mind at rest

My appoinment is tomorrow to have pictures sent to dermatologist and I’m so so scared, I’ve googled so much and it says a mole shouldn’t go raised from flat and I’ve looked at some many pictures and it doesn’t look right at all

I had a mole removed as a teen that went from flat to raised and it was totally fine. It was a big mole as well!

I've also had a mole removed that looked really suss, it appeared on my 30s, it was red all the time, it was growing and changing etc. That turned out fine too.

Is the mole on a location where it is regularly rubbed against by your bra or clothing seams? If so the friction can cause it to raise up. I've got a couple that have done this over the last decade.

Stop googling, it’s your health anxiety that’s setting you on edge, step away from googling and just wait until your appt, going from flat to raised isn’t a guarantee of anything, it’s just a warning sign but doesn’t mean it is definitely anything.

Good luck today. It only takes a few minutes. And they can certainly be harmless and go from flat to raised. Again it's just a warning of a possibility that it could be turning malignant, not that it definitely is.

Stop googling!

@Staceys128 Mine has just come back as a haemangioma which is harmless so I'm discharged.

Until the next time!

Hope you hear back soon
