HELP- Breathing issues 18 month old

Please help- looking for advice / similar experiences

my 18 month old son has been admitted to hospital 8 times since April for “bronchiliotis” and on occasions had chest x Rays that have potentially shown bacterial infection.

he is normally fit and well but he has a lingering cough, we have to tell him to cough after eating & drinking. He is fine when he goes to bed and then all of a sudden he coughs , sounds wheezy , sounds congested and then on occasions his breathing deteriorated and he goes to hospital where he is put on oxygen and remains there for days

does this sound like asthma? Cystic fibrosis? Could it be a dairy allergy?

i can’t keep watching this happen to him to be told it’s normal in toddlers to get unwell

What has your GP said?

It’s not going to be cystic fibrosis OP, if your child was born in the uk it would have been picked up in the newborn screening test.

You need to go and see your GP and push for a referral. It could be repeated colds making the wheezing come back, but the symptoms you describe also sound a bit like asthma so could be worth investigating?

doctors / his consultant said it could be early asthma but at the minute it is a viral induced wheeze. I have heard people say that newborn screening tests have been negative at birth and they later had CF which is why I’m concerned.
