Weird bulging vein

Twice now I’ve noticed a swollen bulging vein down the front of my shin. It’s not painful but is quite prominent. The first time it went away on its own and I didn’t think anything of it. It happened again last night and eventually disappeared but I’ve been left with a red mark the size of a 50p over part of the vein. It’s not a bruise and it’s not tender. Any ideas anyone?

Varicose?

Not that I’m aware of. It pops out and then disappears. Once it recedes there’s no sign of it. Is that how a varicose vein behaves?

Not sure. I've got one that is more prominent sometimes than others but it doesn't go away completely.
