It's about time I posted on here about this problem as I've had it for now 17 years. It's started very suddenly - in fact I remember the circumstances very clearly, but can't explain the reason. Anyway, the medical name is 'globus hystericus' and its the sensation of a lump in the throat. I know I have a nervous dysfunction. I tried getting help a few month after it started but the shrink consultations were useless so I stopped. I'm thinking of going to my gp soon as I'm fed up with it, even if I've designed my life around it and I'm not doing too bad I think iyswim . Anyway, I'd be interested to hear of other experiences.

Thanks for your answers. I'm not alone !
I'm not having much hope it's going to go away soon or any day actually. I feel v anxious too but since I don't know why I suspect only a few years of therapy might help. And I'm not ready for that. I'll see my gp any way to see what he thinks (most probably that I'm a nutter...).
I ggogled and read about a case study that concluded that it can be treated with anti depressants. Not ready for that either...
belgianbun (btw, I'm just on the other side of the belgian border, whereabouts are you?), what's your therapy exactly ?
