Red spots on roof of mouth…..step throat?

Dd is 19 but severely autistic. She’s been unwell for 3 weeks now but it’s hard to work out what is wrong with her as she isn’t very verbal. She started with what seemed like acid reflux symptoms, I took her to the gp and they suggested trying gaviscon. We have tried several things and nothing helps, she’s barely been eating. The last few days she’s become lethargic and is now saying her throat hurts. I just looked at her throat and the roof of her mouth (at the back) has some red spots and there are a couple near her tonsils. Google is telling me ‘strep throat’? Her glands also feel swollen. I will take her back to the GP tomorrow but it’s hard when she can’t explain what’s wrong and won’t always allow them to examine her.

Does red spots in the roof if the mouth always indicate step throat?

It could be. But lots of viral infections can cause this. The only way to tell for sure would be a swab by the GP. If you take her and explain what you’ve said here then I’m sure they’ll be able to look/swab and give a diagnosis. The swollen glands also indicate she’s batting an infection so I’d definitely get her seen.

I've had strep throat twice and it's agony. Literally like razor blades sliced into throat. I believe it was white pus at the back of my throat, not sure about red spots. Just the pain was something else. Antibiotics cured it in half a day.

Thank you. She seems a bit happier this morning despite being awake since 3.30am (some coughing). It seems to get worse as the day goes on so I have kept her home from college today and will try and get her seen by a GP.
