Yes, I had a session to help me cope with health anxiety. Worked wonders. Definitely worth a try. Good luck.

dinny · 02/06/2008 22:14

thanks, Uberalice, good to hear!

Yes it does work! I had hypnotherapy for a couple of different things a few years ago and was so impressed that I am now training to be a hypnotherapist (should actually be doing an assignment now instead of mumsnetting!) It is very successful with phobias - I don't think you'll be disappointed.

mumdebump · 02/06/2008 22:20

Used hypnobirthing and it was fab. No pain, no fear. Go for it.

dinny · 02/06/2008 22:42

wow, great experiences!

first session next week, will report back!

I had around 8 sessions, for a phobia-sadly it didn't work.I had really high hopes & did all the exercises set for me,but just ended up as bad as ever. What made it worse, was the guy that treated me had successfully treated soldiers for PTS,so much so,that they were able to return to active duty.So that made me feel even more of a failure.

I really hope it works for you dinny.

dinny · 02/06/2008 22:56

suppose it depends how susceptible you are, CG

sorry it didn't work for you

Don't feel a failure George. Different things work for different people. Do you know which techniques he used on you? I'm guessing that one might have been EMDR as that is the recommended treatment for PTSD. Did he try any other techniques?

MargaretMountford · 02/06/2008 22:59

yes, it's good - had it for anxiety.

IorekByrnison · 02/06/2008 23:08

Have tried. Didn't work for me. Am sure it depends on the therapist though.

whomovedmychocolate · 02/06/2008 23:10

Dinny I lost a lot of weight using hypnotherapy. However it depends on the therapist, I found one guy who was just useless and another who was fab.

You have to be able to trust the therapist and feel they have integrity IMHO.

zazen · 02/06/2008 23:13

I also lost weight doing hypno therapy and fell preggo also. I loved my therapist - clicked immediatley.

I had EMDR for PSTD and it worked as wel..
Good luck

Zazen & whomovedmychoc, can you post links to the people you went to for weight loss?

I went to a guy to give up smoking 15 years ago, and it worked fantastically, but went back to the same guy for wright loss, and it just didn't happen for me.

Blueskythinker · 02/06/2008 23:41

weight loss, not wright loss

hayley2u · 02/06/2008 23:59

i really want one for help to lose weight does anyone one kow anyone in wirral or merseysde who good,

Lubyloo · 03/06/2008 09:35

Hayley, I can't recommend a particular therapist but check that whoever you go to see is registered either with the National Council for Hypnotherapy, The Hypnotherapy Association or the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council. This will ensure that they have received adequate training and not just been on a weekend course, read a book or printed off their own certificate!

dinny · 03/06/2008 12:59

funnily enough, I just KNEW the woman I am seeing was right for me, and when we spoke on the phone, knew even more strongly she was...

can you have treatment for different things at the same time? like, if I wanted to lose weight could I do it in same sessions as fear of flying ones?

OP posts:
mumdebump · 03/06/2008 15:22

No, but once you have used the techniques successfully it should be easier to use them again for other things.
