At my 12 wk scan they found that i had a small cyst, i'm now 20wks and over the last week or so i've been getting quite a bit of pain in my tummy (mainly on the top of the bump and below) today its been at its worst especially when i bend or sit, but when i stand up strainght or lay down its ok

i've spoken to the midwife who said she is pretty sure from what i described that its muscular and to take pain killers and rest (not sure how i can rest with 4 others but...)

It only occured to me after speaking to the midwife that i had this cyst, so could this be causing the pain? has anyone got any experiance

where is the cyst?

sparklesandnowinefor5months · 02/06/2008 19:19

tbh i'm not 100% sure the lady who did my scan just mentioned that there was one there, but it was small, and that i should mention it next time i have my scan (which is next friday) and they would see if it had grown

i didn't think any more of it really until today, i'm unsure what i could have done to have muscular pain as i'm not that energetic and then remembered about the cyst, but as i've never had one before i wasn't sure if it could cause pain or not iykwim

yes think it can . db's partner had one removed after dn was born , a friend's spontaneously popped. More likely to be ligament pain though.

i hope so, guess i'll find out next week if its grown or not at the scan

but i'll ask the mw tomorrow too when she calls

Hey Sparkles,

When i was pregnant with my dd, i went for my 12wk scan and it was found i have a fibriod in my womb (dont know if this is much diff from a cyst). As my dd grew i found it increasly uncomfy, esp when she started to move and insisting on laying on it ! Tsk tsk !

I also had pain when i sat, lay or moved in a certain way. The midwife told me that it was almost certain that the pain was being caused by the fibriod (sorry about my spelling).

I found a comfy postion to lie/sit in if the pain was bothering me. Also having a warm bath. Hope this helps !

thanks starsparkle i'll try the bath

A cyst is totally different from a fibroid-a fibroid is a growth in the muscle of the womb and in found in loads of women.

The cyst is likely to be an ovarian cyst. It should not hurt unless it is very big, or is on a stalk which can get twisted and the cyst rupture- if that was the case your MW should have told you and referred you to the drs.

i don't think your pain is connected.

thanks girlnextdoor i know i'm probably being slightly paranoid but i never had any of this with the others, just feels a bit odd i suppose

i can still feel the baby moving and i'm not worried from that point of view its just that the pain has been getting quite bad the last few days and i have too much time to think about what it could be

thanks for helping though

You don't get it with pregnancy- it is caused by the ovum not dissolving properly after ovulation- probably one long before you got pregnant. There's loads on the net if you ggogle ovarian cyst.

girlnextdoor · 02/06/2008 20:29

Sorry- maybe you didn't mean it was connected to pregnancy- but if you are in pain, you should make an appt with your GP.

MrsMuddle · 02/06/2008 21:15

I had an ovarian cyst when I was pregnant. I was rushed to hospital in an ambulance in agony - they thought I had a burst appendix. Anyway, they then discovered I was about a week pregnant and had an ovarian cyst. Apparently they're very common and usually harmless, but pregnancy hormones can "feed" them. The one I had was huge, and I got it removed under GA.

The week-old foetus is now a cheeky 12-year-old.

Get it checked out. It can go from a slighly uncomfortable to unbearably sore very quickly.

thanks mrsmuddle

i feel better today although pain is still there but not as bad, i have the mw coming over in the morning to check me over so will ask her about it then
