Weird digestive issues, any ideas while I wait for a GP appointment?

For the last couple of years I’ve had unexplained pelvic pain randomly at night (it only seems to happen at night). I went to the GP about a year and a half ago and was told it may be to do with my coil having shifted. However, for the last nine months or so the pelvic pain is accompanied by a need to poo, and I am finding myself going to the toilet more frequently. Last night for example I went 3 times. Also over this period I have put on a lot of weight and got more bloated.

I have googled IBS and even bowel cancer, but the results seem to suggest that if I had one of these I would be losing weight rather than gaining it. I am currently waiting for a blood test but does anyone have any idea what it might be? I would appreciate any advice as last night the pain was quite severe and woke me up :(

The pain possibly is wind.

Have you tried windeeze to see if that helps?

o got a lot of pain in mu bowels before opening them until o cut wheat from my diet.

I haven’t tried windeeze, will get some! Thank you

Sorry for graphic info but fellow chronic digestive sufferer here! (Not now I don’t eat wheat)

Bit I found the constant bowel opening was because of the wind. Sons herbal as wind passes through and then a stool. The rest of the stool was behind more wind which was painful as it passed - then more stool could come though.

Don't underestimate the pain of a gut trying to move air through it!

Sounds like constipation to me, but definitely get it checked out

BarbaraVineFan · 17/09/2025 19:55

Hmm, maybe I should try cutting out wheat!

I have IBS and have not ever lost weight because of it. My best friend has IBD and is obese. Don’t imagine that because you don’t have weight loss it CANT be one of these things. Cancer I agree would generally have weight loss.

It could be SIBO, bowel endo, an STI… all sorts

It can be any number of things, as a fellow abdominal pain sufferer. Have you seen your GP yet? Might be worth having a celiac blood test before you try cutting out wheat. Milk/lactulose is another to try. If you have bowel changes should probably get checked. Can be things like diverticulitis, IBD, IBS, SIBO. Sometimes a prolapse can affect things. Start with your GP I'd say. They can at least do a stool test and bloods to start with.

Bloating, weight gain, toilet changes and pelvic pain can all be symptoms of ovarian cancer, so that's one thing I'd be asking the GP to screen for, simple blood test and stomach palpation is all it takes for them to know whether a referral is needed for more investigations or not.

Not saying that's what it is, just pointing out it's worth having it ruled out.

Stick to bland foods, stay hydrated, and avoid caffeine or alcohol.
See a doctor urgently if you have severe pain, vomiting, or blood in stool.
