Impetigo and pregnancy

Does anyone know whether impetigo is dangerous for pregnant women? My DD has jsut been diagnosed and given antibiotics. Her nanny took her to the doctor so I wasn't there. Apparantly it is very contagious.

I am 13 weeks pregnant so now I am wondering whether impetigo is dangerous for the baby? I know that many diseases with rashes are dangerous.

Hi
I don't really have a medically qualified answer but I did not want you to go "unheard" - early pregnancy can be such a worrying time.

AFAIK it is spread by contact not droplets - ie your daughter touches the rash and then someone else - if that someone else has a break in the skin then the infection can get in that way. So as long as you avoid contact with the rash , maintain strict hygiene - seperate towels etc I think it's ok. Why don't you give your midwife/ health visitor a call to get a proper medical answer but I think it will not affect your pregnancy.

Sympathies - my dd 2 has just got it for the second time in a month and it really is a pain.
