My 3 year old has a mole on his top leg. Had it since birth. I’m trying to work out if it looks bad and is changing- does anyone know anything about moles? It’s slightly darker and raised in the middle. Thanks

Has it grown since birth? My LO had one from birth that grew to that size by around 3. We asked for a Dermatology referral from the GP and they removed it.

Said it would be very unlikely to be cancerous in a child that young (they’d never seen it and it wasn’t) but it could develop as they got older.

Definitely worth asking for a referral.

My daughter has a naevi on her head and her upper thigh (looks exactly like your pic) she was born with both and no concerns when leaving hospital by drs etc. I was concerned the one on her head had grown when she was around 1? GP sent pic off to dermatologist who said nothing to worry about but told me to buy a ruler and take a pic of the mole against the ruler every few months so I can truly know if it grows or not. I was also advised that it can be normal for them to change a bit. I’m obviously not a medical professional and no harm in getting it checked out by your GP but looking at the pic, I wouldn’t be worried

I would definitely get it looked at. The younger the better so it would be small at the young age and easily dealt with. I had one removed at age 28 and doc recommended it be removed.

Thanks everyone- I will get it checked out. I can’t remember what it was like when he was a baby. And how much it’s grown. I would ideally like it removed so I don’t have to think about it !
