Knee trouble/Bakers Cyst

Hi all,

I have had trouble with my one knee for years. It swells sometimes and is terribly painful, especially when walking downstairs. The pain comes and goes.

I've never gotten to the bottom of it.
I've had 2 xrays which came back normal. However, I visited the GP recently because I developed swelling in the back of my knee aswell as the front. He confirmed it was a Bakers Cyst but said it wasn't that common in younger people(?) I'm 33. Someone told me you don't just 'get' a Bakers Cyst usually there's some problem with the knee, for example - arthritis.

I had an xray of my knee on Tuesday and they said the results can take up to 3 weeks. I feel a bit deflated at that wait. Will the GP contact me sooner if something is found?

And if this xray is normal again - what do I do? I clearly have some sort of problem going on but no idea what!

Does anyone have any experience of a Bakers Cyst? What caused yours?
Can my xray have possibly changed since the last one, which was last year?

Half hoping the xray will shine some light on what's going on, but I don't hold much hope.

Many thanks!

I have a reoccurring bakers cyst and also arthritis. You can feel it in the knee joint, have a feel of the inside of both your knees and you will feel it. Mine is normally in some stage of the cycle, when it gets big it means it will soon burst (query grammar) which is an odd feeling followed by a swollen ankle, which is actually fluid from the cyst.

It’s like a big internal spot that won’t go away.

My dad had one a few years ago and it just went away by itself. Sorry I can't tell you more about it but hope yours goes the same way
