My DS needs ABs before he goes away at the weekend. No appointments available. Can I buy them off the internet? I know I shouldn’t, but we’re stuck.

Dependng what it is for a chemist can prescribe or ask for a nurse practitioner appointment

AintNoPunshineWhenShesGone · 08/09/2025 18:59

No, take him to a walk-in centre.

WhereAreMyKids · 08/09/2025 18:59

You can do private online consultations, about £50 for a prescription I think, posted out.

Is it one of the pharmacy-first illnesses like an ear infection? If so you can get them from the pharmacy

MissMoneyFairy · 08/09/2025 18:59

What does he need them for, some pharmacists can supply them, have you tried he econsult with the gp.

Notagain75 · 08/09/2025 19:00

Can you take him to a walk in centre? Or do you have a hub with a nurse practitioner your GP can refer you to ?
Also what are they for? The pharmacy can prescribe for certain illnesses.
How can you be sure he needs them if he hasn't seen a doctor?
I have no idea if you can but them online but I wouldn't do that. How do you know they are safe?

If you’re in England, https://www.england.nhs.uk/primary-care/pharmacy/pharmacy-services/pharmacy-first/

You may also be able to get an econsult with a private GP. However, if antibiotics are indicated your GP should see him. How do you know he needs them?

Obviously don’t buy on the internet - you have no idea what you’re buying, you might buy the wrong ones, or you could have mis-diagnosed your DS.
