Strange question, but why do my legs itch when I run?
I've just started running in an atempt to get fit but after half an hour or so my thighs really itch. Does anyone know why? or what I could do to prevent it. Thanks.

Do you put moisturiser on your legs? What do you wear on your legs!?

CoteDAzur · 01/06/2008 18:08

Friction from pants?

mummyloveslucy · 01/06/2008 18:09

I don't put moisturiser on my legs and tend to ware baggie cotton trousers.

It something to do with the body warming up I think, blood and circulation, mine itch when I get out of a rearly hot bath.

Something to do with blood coming to surface of skin to try and cool you down I think - I get it on the front of my thighs but not all of the time.

Thanks everyone.

You've got urticaria (spelling) - it's when the pores on your skin do not open and allow the sweat to evaporate. The heat builds up, hence hot, red, itchy thighs. I suspect you may also suffer from prickly heat in the summer - same reason. Try wearing shorts, to allow the skin to cool and also the exfoliate - it helps me.

agree with all the wise women, plus try wearing proper wicking material trousers or shorts, not cotton.

CoteDAzur · 01/06/2008 19:17

I don't agree with OP having urticaria, which is very distinctive. If OP had it, she wouldn't be here just saying 'legs itch', she would be describing how big and how raised her itchy blotches are.

don't know about urticaria, 'fraid I've never heard of it - I was thinking more of something like prickly heat or the friction theory. Cotton's rubbish for running, gives you horrible chafing and stays all dampy and sweaty and festy. Try tighter trousers shorts in wicking material!

Allergy to your own sweat? Quite normal, ds gets it
