Blood pressure worry

raininginlanzarote · 06/09/2025 11:52

I have had high blood pressure for years, like 30 odd, and I take loads of medication. It is normally 140/90 and has been for as long as I remember. Went to see nurse last week and it was 135/85. She said it was good it was coming down.

woke up today feeling really wobbly, blood sugar 6.5 so that’s fine but checked my bp and it is 117/72!!!. Left it a few hours and checked again but still very similar.

Any thoughts? Being a w/e can’t get hold of any gp, should I be worried?

That's a normal blood pressure, what meds are you on and what time do you take them. If you still feel wobbly and you think your blood pressure is low for you then call 111 for advice about reducing the dose, what's your pulse.

I have had high blood pressure since I was a teenager but as I got older, it’s got lower. It might be that your meds need to be tweaked slightly

117/72 is a good blood pressure but your body isn't used to it so you're feeling different. Try to drink plenty of water and keep an eye on it. What is your pulse rate?

I’d be delighted to get mine that high ! Try drinking more water and adding some salt to your food

Don't add salt, speak to your doctor first but make sure you're drinking plenty.

Pulse is 61. I’m on 4 different medication for it. I know this is the normal range but I don’t understand the sudden drop? It is exceptionally low for me, and I felt so odd that was why I checked it. I’ll leave it until tomorrow and see then if it’s still low I’ll ask 111 for advice. Thanks all for your comments.

Are you diabetic,if not the blood sugar is a bit high.

Blood pressure does vary to adjust for what else is going on in your body, could be that its been dropping gradually for a little while and today has reached a level that's given you those symptoms, or it could be that something else is going on to make your blood pressure lower today. Either way, don't worry, drink plenty of fluids and just keep an eye on things. Give GP a call on Monday if you're not feeling right. Or 111 over the weekend if you start to feel worse.

What time of day do you take your BP meds? I'm 64, my BP is around 150/85. (I'd be thrilled with your reading). I'm now on Ramipril (5mg) and take it at night, as I felt weak, dizzy and nauseous when I used to take it in the morning.
