How many of you who had adult braces had tooth extractions before?

The dentist has recommended removing two upper premolars to remove an eventual gap (overbite/ over jet).

Are you happy with the results? Did you notice a change to your face shape/ profile?

Hi, I had braces aged 38 and had those extractions.

No changes to face shape. In fact it looks a lot better now as the orthodontic treatment corrected my bite and brought my jaw slightly further forward.

However. The braces have straightened my 6 front teeth and unfortunately the gap left by the extractions has not fully closed on either side. It is not that noticeable as my teeth are quite large and wide. It's ok but I wasn't completely happy as I felt that should have been sorted out by the overall treatment, but my orthodontist said that sometimes this happens.

So you might want to ask about this scenario.

If you saw me you'd probably think I had nice teeth but I know the gaps are there so they're not perfect.

Thank you. My front teeth are so bad that, if it worked, I wouldn't mind small gaps at the side.

I have such low self esteem with regards to many looks that I'm scared of looking worse. I trust the orthodontist, but scared myself looking online and seeing horror stories last night 😅 I just don't want to look worse than I do now.

Do you know how it brought your jaw forward? I thought that could only happen with surgery.

I would look for a second opinion to see if it’s really necessary. I had a few teeth shaved down to make room, but I wouldn’t have agreed to extraction of healthy teeth.

I had teeth removed, all good
