People's experiences with foreign dentists ???

Finally facing up to the horrific state of my teeth and will likely need a lot of work done - a few thousands pounds worth (at least) 😩😖

I am pondering looking into getting it done abroad. Eastern Europe somewhere seems to be the done thing.

Has anyone actually done this? And if so what were your experiences (good or bad)?

No offence to our eastern continental cousins, though the blunt reality is that a well-qualified and well-regarded dental specialist could just move to western Europe and earn x5 the money, so am guessing only the mediocre dentists stay local..? Don't really want some guy who scraped a pass in his dental exam in Serbia in 1988 messing about with my root canals. Maybe just skip holidays for a couple years and get it done in UK if so. That said if I can get good quality work done for half the price plus a weekend break in Croatia to boot, would make sense.

Anyway, would be interested in hearing people's experiences.

My mum needed emergency dental treatment in Greece so just went to a local dentist, not one that specialises in tourists. Probably not as cheap as some of the Eastern European ones but she was so happy she went back for more aesthetic work.

I would find a good dentist over here. I have got 2 crowns and 2 veneers which I paid for privately. If they fall out or need repair my dentist will fix them free of charge. You won't get that if you go abroad.

Hi OP how have you been getting on with your research? I’ve been to the dentist today and quoted around £10k to “sort” my teeth out. Looking at them you wouldn’t guess I needed this much doing thankfully! But it really got me thinking and looking into dental tourism …. We are constantly getting ripped off in this country and this quote today is just crazy!

yes I saw a peridontal specialist in London... my teeth are really not is a good way (three different dentists have said this now so I am confident this person isn't exaggerating). Quote for a comprehensive care package is £2,300 (3-4 visits) - this is for peridontal and deep cleaning work with aftercare.

Think I'll just take the hit, might be cheaper abroad, but I'll have no idea about local standards etc plus the cost of multiple trips.

£10K seems extreme tbh unless you're getting new teeth implanted etc.

Myself and my best friend both had dental work done in Turkey. Me an implant and her a full set of crowns (didn't agree with that but thats her decision).

Both results were very good and I'd thoroughly recommend.

The British have got a very superior attitude about themselves and think they are the best at everything but one look at the dental situation in this country says otherwise.

Could you get a referral to the Eastman dental hospital? Even if your dentist is private they can refer you.
