Anyone bashed their elbow and had nerve damage?

DS (16) came off his skateboard pretty badly last week (no, not wearing any protective gear, don't get me started). He didn't break anything but amongst various wounds and a chipped tooth, also bashed one of his elbows badly which has resulted in a week of shooting pain down his arm, tingling and a couple of fingers that are sort of bent all the time and he has to actively straighten IYSWIM. It has been X rayed and is not broken - they said the pain would last about a week but he's still in significant pain whenever he straightens his arm. Seems to definitely be nerve pain - sort of shooting and electrical. Not constant but hits him every few minutes.

Anyone had this? Think we should get it checked again? It's only been 8 days but I'd have expected more of an improvement maybe?

For the record, he won't be skating until everything is back to normal!

I'm not at all an expert, but bashed a nerve once in a similar accident and it took several weeks to stop hurting. Nerves are notoriously slow to heal.

Yes I have! Hit my funny bone last September and haven’t had full use in that arm since. Started as you describe but it has gradually improved since then. I can now use my right hand for all tasks but not full time, have had to become ambidextrous eg swapping mouse hand regularly through the day at work

Oh no, these sound awful!

I scrapes the back of my thumb recently - no visible damage to the skin but I obviously damaged a nerve in some way as the thumb joint is kind of half-numb, and if I catch the bashed bit in the wrong way I get a nasty electric shock feeling. It is very slowly getting better but it's already beeen several weeks. So I expect your ds will have a useful reminder about the value of elbow pads for a while yet...

Oof. Yes I do hope he gets that message!
