Hi girlies, what symptoms did you experience with low ferritin please? How low were your levels and did you feel worse around periods

Hair loss
Air hunger
irritability
palpitations
craving to crunch ice (v common apparently)
Crushing exhaustion
anxiety

worse around periods as so horrendously heavy due to fibroids and Endo.
Prescription iron got my levels up from 7 to 22, but had horrendous side effects, and I’ve had better results from taking iron bisglycinate on alternate days (there is a scientific explanation why alternative days increases levels better if you Google). I’m also now taking beef liver capsules as they are good for iron apparently. I’m now up to 34.

I hope you feel better soon Flowers

I’m prone to low ferritin it’s been around 8 before currently 14 and just about to start iron tablets. Definitely feel worse around periods.
When it’s lower I feel very tired, anxious more often and have aches and pains. Really fancy ice lollies too!

Mine is 12, I would say intermittent but overwhelming fatigue is the main symptom for me. Hair loss, blood spots on arms/ legs/ torso. Breathlessness more than is usual for me. Anxiety (but have suffered for years anyway so difficult to know the difference). Only found out in May and have been taking ferrous fumarate every other day since then. Feels like it will be a slow road!

Extreme fatigue, faintness, and hair loss (including bald patches). All improved after an infusion.
My ferritin was 4.
I had to pay an insane amount of money for an iron infusion because the NHS wouldn't help me despite me not being able to tolerate any oral iron except spatone which didn't raise my levels at all. Even the private consultant was dismissive.
Can't speak about periods as I take the pill continuously.
