Chronic Constipation - Movicol

AlproJo · 23/08/2025 10:05

I have chronic constipation and the doctor has suggested that I can take Movical long term as maintenance - all investigations are clear.
My question is, how can I gather a routine with these sachets? I am worried about a sudden gush at work and am hoping any bowel motions (if at all) are sensible.
How many sachets should I be taking and when?

Thank you in advance

Are you peri/meno by chance?

Two kiwi fruit every day, skin included, is clinically proven to help constipation. I blitz in a smoothie each day.
Chia seeds, one table spoon in water and knocked back quickly before they swell work well in addition to kiwi (but I add a couple tbsp to my smoothie)
5 dates in addition to the above.

DulcoEASE in the evening (not DulcoLAX) until the above fruit & seeds kick in, it can take around two weeks for the above to help, but you have to do it daily and then forever.

I would never take Movicol after seeing the effects when DC was prescribed it.

Resolor each evening is better than movicol, but some Drs don’t like to prescribe it for some reason. Cost I imagine.

Due to long term problems, I've taken movicol/cosmocol daily for years. I'm on 2 sachets but used to be 1. I take it at bedtime.

Im on 8 sachets a day and have just had picolax weekly added to my haul of medications, im an extremely resistant case though.

Trial and error will find what works for you, try it at night on a day when you won't be going out then tinker as you go along x
