I had root canal three days ago with a temporary filling out on after which will be replaced in 4 weeks. All went well. No pain at all but today I’m getting a full ache/ throb. Is this normal? To go two full days without pain then to start to hurt a bit?

My (excellent) dentist told me it can take up to a year, sometimes more for a tooth to fully settle after a root canal. 3 days is nothing.

Okay. I was just a bit disconcerted to go from no pain at the start and then a bit of delayed pain

I've had a few root canal treatments. One of them started hurting 2 days after it was done but settled down after a few days and has been fine ever since (6 years). It ached enough for painkillers but wasn't the unbearable ache of toothache. Is yours like that? My dentist has warned me each time that it can get very sore afterwards, due to the injury to the tooth.

I've an 8 month old root filled tooth that is giving e pain a the moment. My endodontist and general dentist both look at me like I'm nuts when I go to them about it. I was in a state about it but your post is giving me reassurance.

Yes. Exactly this. 🤞 it’s all normal. I’ve never had any dental work done so no experience of even tooth ache!

I've actually got an appointment to have my root canal + crown taken out. Had it done 18 months ago and it flares up sometimes very painfully ever since. My new dentist said they do take a long time to settle but sometimes they just fail. About 8 weeks ago it felt like it got infected, v painful and gum swelled up, also a bit gunky. Improved slightly after a course of antibiotics, but it still doesn't feel right and I daren't bite down on it and the gum is very sore. Hope I'm doing the right thing but it just feels like it's going to keep getting infected.

I’ve got decade old root canals. They do ache a bit every now and then. I think it’s what they do.
