Raised cholesterol levels

I've just had a blood test come back with raised cholestorol levels. I know I need to exercise more and eat less or eat less sweet and carby items.

Is there anything else I can do?

Are your ldl and hdl both high?

Take Benecol type drinks and Pro-Active margarine?. I have been doing both and am going to get blood retested next month to see if they have helped. I Have been trying to lose weight and am exercising a lot more. Also eating more nuts, avocado and olive oil. I used to avoid these when trying to lose weight but apparently that's not the thing to do. Good Luck.

Did they check your blood sugar too? High cholesterol can be caused by untreated type 2.

Did they give you just one figure, or did they break it down into three (2 x LDL and 1 x HDL)?

Geneticsbunny · 22/08/2025 09:24

It's important to know because they balance each other out so high in both is not necessarily an issue.

I avoided foods with high levels of saturated fats or only ate them sparingly. That brought my levels down. Basically all fatty, sugary foods have high levels of saturated fats as do cheese and red meats. I found my tastes changed over time and I now rarely eat puddings, cakes or biscuits, or want to, and only occasionally red meat. Chocolate is another matter....but I'm strong willed, unless I have a bad day at work!

No figures, just you have raised cholesteral levels.

That’s not good enough! You need to know what they are.

Did they offer any suggestions as to what you should do? Your instinct about less sugar/fewer carbs should definitely help you.
