Broken finger (spiral) - delay in virtual fracture clinic/orthopaedic review

Broke my little finger last Thursday, went to Urgent Treatment Centre where they x rayed it and referred to Virtual Fracture Clinic. They put it in a buddy splint, however said that it needs a cast and possibly a pin because it’s a spiral fracture which apparently is a bad one. I rang orthopaedics today, as they recommended, who have said that it’s not due to be reviewed until 5 days time and I’ll be called back in 8 days time. I would have thought that a + 2 week delay is a bit of an issue if the bone has started to heal without a pin etc if needed. Is this usual?

Any one else had experience of this? Finger is at a rotated angle and I’m starting to doubt that it will get seen/realigned before it starts to heal. Apparently a lot of staff are off they’ve said.

Make a complaint to PALS and email them or the consultants secretary to chase the appointment up.

Or go back to the Urgent Treatment Centre or minor injuries.

Not exactly the same, but I had similar bullshit - I didn't realise at the time that the fracture I had was supposed to be operated on within 24 hours to save the use of the finger. They left it ten days. By that time although they did the surgery there was no possibility it would be ok and it isn't. They've admitted liability and just arguing about the compensation.

I can do. I rang today and orthopaedics said that a lot of staff are off because of the school holidays/childcare, which is fine but surely there should be a minimal service provision. The note on my NHS app says orthopaedics advised to ‘buddysplint which is not in alignment with UTC management,’ they said it should be in a cast.
