I have had many a colonoscopy and one endoscopy.

The drugs are actually really rather nice! You feel sleepy and relaxed and then you fall asleep but you are not entirely under. You may wake up at some point in the procedure and it may feel a little uncomfortable or it may hurt quite a bit (when they are putting it round the corner of the colon for eg) but it is ok as you are really rather out of it.

He will feel a bit sleepy afterwards but not ill

I had an endoscopy a few years ago. I was sedated and although aware of what was going on and I could see the screen, got talked through procedure etc., I didn't really feel uncomfortable and I think I even dozed off for a while.

I can't quite remember how long it took but I know it wasn't that long and afterwards I had to wait for about an hour and then have someone drive me home. I think I might have felt a little sore for a while and had to rest. I didn't feel ill after it though.

Sorry, I don't know anything about the other procedure.

I hope things go well tomorrow.

I've had both. Endoscopy is quicker, 10-20 mins depending on what they find. Colonoscopy is longer, up to 45 mins, again depending on what they find.

The sedation is actually a bit like one of the 'date rape' drugs in that it doesn't put you to sleep but it stops you from laying down memories so you feel like you've been asleep as you don't remember anything apart from odd moments, like remembering flashes of a dream when you wake up in the morning. They need you to be 'awake', i.e responsive to their commands, so you can't go completely to sleep.

Afterwards the only real effect is possibly a slight sore throat where the camera has gone down your throat and some wind pains as they blow you up with air.

I've had one of these (not sure which, ie not sure of differnece, I'm crap, sorry)

The worst thing was not eating at all the day before - on the day I just felt very weird because of that.

The sedation drug just made me more or less fall asleep (interesting what you say IF, but I really felt I was out of it) and not know what was happening.

I wasn't keen on losing control (bit of an issue with me ) but it was good to feel nothing I guess.

Felt Ok later. hungry tho.

Hope yr DH gets good news as a result of this.
