Just took dd (4.5) to GP. HAs a sore throat and temp.

He looked and said "If it's not tonsilitis then it's probably tonsilitis brewing" and prescribed Penicillin

Would you give the AB anyway or wait to see how it goes over the next couple of days?

I hate giving AB's, and almost never do, but am sure that your GP can correctly diagnose something so obvious as tonsillitis, so I would give it anyway and try to get your DD out of pain!

Good point about tonsilitis being obvious, hadn't thought of it like that

Also don't like giving ABs unless necessary. Pain is being well managed with Calpol and she is able to let me know when it starts hurting again

Will start ABs tomorrow

You don't have to take antibiotics for tonsilitis, if she's feeling a fair bit better in the morning I wouldn't bother. I can be almost impossible to differentiate a viral from bacterial throat infection just by looking at it.
