Unexplained bruises - what could be causing them?

I've recently noticed I've been getting a variety of unexplained bruises, mostly on my bum cheeks.

They've ranged in size and intensity - from small and fairly discreet to one particularly large and dark purple one.

I'm absolutely baffled as to what could be causing them? I wouldn't bat an eyelid if they were on bonier/more vulnerable parts of the body but my bottom is pretty well padded and I have no recollection of walking into any door handles or such.

I'm mid 30s, no known health conditions. Some menstrual cycle changes recently, and lowish B12, ferritin and folate earlier this year.

I exercise around twice per week, just running so no contact sports. Any ideas?

Given how young you are, the regularity and that you have no recollection of injury which could be causing the bruises, I’d suggest you visit your GP and get checked out. Unexplained bruises can be a sign of multiple serious health conditions including blood clotting disorders, liver disease and cancer. The recent changes to your menstrual cycle is also a concern

Low ferritin and folate (iron deficiency anemia) can cause easy bruising.
As can taking even low dose aspirin for pain relief.

I agree GP visit and blood tests would be a good idea.
