Hi has any one had dental implant done?
Could you tell me what to expect. Is it painful and what recovery time am I looking at. Will I be able to work the next day.

Following as I need one too. Been told I need a bone graft and sinus lift first which just sounds terrifying!

I’m halfway through mine, still have to have the tooth part fitted but the implant is in my jaw and it’s totally fine. I did work the next day, it was nowhere near as awful as the tooth extraction was and took about half an hour to put in, the next bit should be even easier.

Not too much pain either. You have to take a weeks course of antibiotics.

@bozzabollix sounds good, did you have stitches and were they dissolvable.

@ForLoveNotMoney I have to have bone graft too. I can't wait to have my smile back. Wishing you well with your dental implant procedure.

Hi,
I had two done in June, had two teeth extracted and the implants put in and I am now waiting for the bone to grow around them before temporary crowns are put on in October.

I took two weeks off work annual leave, which in hindsight I didn’t need. Mine are my top teeth at the front, so I currently have a four tooth gap. I have a temporary denture which I couldn’t wear for the first two weeks because my gums were so swollen. I had dissolvable stitches which were annoying but gone after a couple of weeks. I know my two weeks of swelling makes it sound awful! But it really wasn’t, just annoying because of where my gap is. I had the extractions and implants done at the same time too which causes a lot of the swelling. Pain wise I was ok and could have worked had speaking not been a challenge with the swelling. It was nothing that ibuprofen and paracetamol didn’t sort out.

Good luck with it. I needed this doing for years and was too scared, and honestly now I have done it I don’t know why I put it off for so long. It really wasn’t that bad having it done and that is coming from someone who has been known to run from the dentists chair. I am so excited for the finished result!

Well done @Dottydoodoo. Glad you have been okay with your dental implants. I am at my first implant procedure in 2 weeks. Nervous but happy I'm finally getting tooth implant.
