High cholesterol

Just looking for some advice as I am feeling extremely anxious. I was told today my cholesterol is very high 8.4 when it's supposed to under 5 and my bad cholesterol is over 6 when it's supposed to be 3. I've been referred to a lipid clinic for further examination. My fathers father died of heart attack at very young age and my father also has high cholesterol but manages it. What I'm concerned about is that I'm now feeling so anxious that I could just have a heart attack and that is making me feel more anxious, thus causing more heart palpitations etc.. I am 33 year old female with 2 young children. Diet is not bad but could be better, dont eat a lot of red meat, dont drink, dont smoke. I have struggled massively since having children with my health, underactive thyroid, anemia, ovarian cysts, endoemtriosis. How am I supposed to not panick about it until I get seen again? Any advice on what I should do in meantime until I'm seen again.

Not a medical professional but I have had high cholesterol my whole adult life. I wouldn't panic right away. Chances are they'll put you on statins. There are lots of different ones to try. Do you know your blood pressure reading?

Gp said my blood pressure was absolutely fine! He mentioned about medication but he also mentioned i might need genetic testing to see if there's any underlying genetic condition. Do you do anything to help manage it other than medication?

How this started was I had a cholesterol test in my 20s and was told I had a normal result for someone in their 60s. Now I'm in my 60s, I take statins and have consistently normal results. I try to eat healthily (increased fruit and veg, have cut down on meat etc) but I'm not obsessive about it. My blood pressure is normal and if anything on the low side which is a good sign I think.

Hi, I had high cholesterol at level 9. I managed to get it down to 6 by changing my diet, but unfortunately had some heart issues after having Covid in October. My cholesterol reading was back up to 7 so I was immediately given statins which took it straight down to 4.
I was referred to the lipid clinic in December 24 and I am still on the waiting list to be seen! The doctor thinks my high cholesterol is genetic, but tbh, I don’t think its going to make any difference. I need statins so I take them. I didn’t want to but it’s just another thing to try and protect my heart. I have no side effects on Atorvastatin.
To bring it down a little before trying statins you could research Mediterranean diet as that will probably help.

Is your underactive thyroid under control with medication as when I had an underactive thyroid my cholesterol levels went up to 12 and was told it was linked.
