Tinnitus

I have tinnitus and I can usually ignore it. However, yesterday i was in a car accident (not really hurt thankfully) but my tinnitus has increased and added to this is a whooshing sound in my left ear. It’s driving me nuts.

I have been toying with the idea for a long time of getting ear wax removal to see if this helps and today have booked an appointment next week and tomorrow will buy medicated olive oil as the place I’m going to for the appointment says to use it for 5 days beforehand.

Anyway, is there anything I can do in the meantime to reduce some of this noise? particularly the whooshing which only started yesterday.

Please go to A&E OP - this could be a sign of a head injury

@BeatriceAndBeau
I definitely didn’t bang my head in the accident. However, I have a telephone doctors appointment today.

If its low frequency (I have this and it is the absolute worst T :( ) then try using the starship sounds to mask it.

It is worth trying olive oil drops for ear wax. I get mild tinnitus when I have too much ear wax and otex olive oil drops seem to stop it.

If it's pulsatile tinnitus (the whooshing is in time with your pulse) then I'd agree with @BeatriceAndBeau you should get it checked out today (you might be able to get an urgent GP appointment rather than A&E). Have been told before that pulsatile tinnitus in one ear is more dodgy than in both. Whiplash can bring it on, even if you didn't bang your head.

I had a telephone appointment with my GP who asked me to go to A&E, which I did. They just checked inside my ears with a light, checked my head over for tender spots and asked about the accident etc. They decided all was ok and the whooshing has now stopped. I am still going for ear wax removal next week.
