I've got a really evil virus. Anyone else got this?

You start off feeling tired and drained. Then head cold develops and a sore throat which feels like you have swallowed broken glass. Also intermittent coughing fits.

About day 2 you get feverish and feel cold and shivery.

This morning - day 3, I felt like an animated corpse and when driving to work (no, I probably shouldn't be here) I was probably severely compromised. Felt chronically tired. Got to work at 08.00 and then slept in the car until 09.30.

At 9.30 stumbled to my office and had to sit down on the floor halfway as I felt that I was going to black out.

Since then haven't felt too bad actually. Anyone else suffering from this?

(not sure why I am posting actually except to complain about feeling ill- which always makes me feel better )

Poor you hmc. Why don't you go home?

I thought you meant a computer virus.

biglips · 19/01/2005 11:21

yes... GO HOME

handlemecarefully · 19/01/2005 11:24

If I go home I will have to turn out again at 15.20 to pick up kids from on site Day Nursery by 16.00 (it's a 40 minute trip each way from home), and then drive another 40 mins home (its complicated).

At least if I stay at work - holed up in my office not seeing anyone just dealing with emails etc, then its fairly easy on me physically. I then just hang on until 16.00 and pick up kids then and drive home. Am thinking of getting dh to come home from work early this evening to help me with their teas etc

How about getting dh (and he would earn the d in dh for this) collecting kiddies from nursery and you going home now. FWIW, I agree, sounds like you need to be in bed.

Merlot · 19/01/2005 11:28

Secur, great minds think alike eh?

handlemecarefully · 19/01/2005 11:28

Ummm - I guess you are right. Dh is terrible workaholic and will moan about this - but I don't call upon his services often.

Ah think we have this, its pharangitis according to the quack as dd has had it since last Thurs and is only just getting better in time for me and dh to get it, oh whooppeeee

unicorn · 19/01/2005 19:51

hmc.. I had something very similar over Christmas
I couldn not get out of bed, and dh had to take some time off to look after kids.

Only thing that helped was sleep, sleep, sleep... and lots of water..

took nearly 2 weeks to totally clear from system.

Hope you feel much better very soon.

alwayssaythanku · 19/01/2005 23:36

Hi, yes i got this just in mid december. Unfortunately I still have it. It goes away and it comes back. As much as I hate antibiotics, I had to do something cause I was coughing up the lining of my lung! first day of antibiotics and I feel much better. Doctor said it could turn into pneumonia. Anyone who gets it beware and get plenty of rest. Its a doozy.

So relieved to know that it's going around! I'm not too sick, just the tiredness and sore throat, but my sons both have it pretty bad. We've been stuck inside on the sofa for a week.

Hope you're feeling better (that's to all the fellow sickies). We're lucky to have it all at once. I hate being sick and watching after the boys when they're healthy.

alwayssaythanku · 20/01/2005 14:54

After almost two months of recurring illness precipitated by this flu we are talking about, i finally caved in and took my gp's advice to take antiobiotics. I just wasnt able to knock this flu on the head, by myself. I have only taken one tablet and feel miles better. I am pissed off having to take antibiotics but my life was misery since before Christmas with it. Watch out this flu dosent keep coming back on you (especially if you are a smoker)

handlemecarefully · 20/01/2005 21:57

Thanks Secur,

I do feel a fair bit better today - although still chronically tired.

alwaysaythankyu - believe me if this illness comes back I'll be straight down the doctors begging for medication.

Actually I ought to go to bed for some shuteye to speed up recovery....but dh isn't home yet and I'm scared because the wind is howling around and there are all sorts of unaccounted for noises outside [slightly freaked out emoticon]
