Left sided flank pain

I have searched and there are lots of old threads about my issue but often the OP hadn’t come back with an update.

Anyway I get pain on left side intermittently. Soreness around ribs, running to back.and some tender spots between ribs. Or it can be lower down near groin. I have had a few bouts of this. The doctor suggested Diverticulitis most recently because after bloods my markers were up. however, I’m not sure it is that. The pain can be anywhere up my left side. I just feel inflamed if you know what I mean.

I have had this off and on for years and had various tests. Ovarian scan, abdominal scan, bloods etc. nothing found. I even had a sigmoidoscopy that showed nothing so this is why I don’t think it’s Diverticulitis (though the procedure was 5 years ago).

I am otherwise healthy. I do have coeliac disease but it is well managed.

I am going to go back to gp and expect they’ll refer for a colonoscopy. I just wondered though if anyone has had this and found answers. It’s a collection of symptoms and so hard to pin down.

How high up? Level with your kidney? Could it be uti/kidney related?

Claymoreiron · 04/08/2025 12:01

Thanks both. I don’t think kidney as I had various bloods to rule that out.

I have exactly this at the moment! It moves around from ovary/hip area to my waist and can feel like someone is squeezing me. All blood tests have come back normal, including CA125 and kidneys. The GP thinks it could be to do with constipation which I do suffer from. It's not particularly painful, just irritating. No idea what it could be.

It’s a mystery. I have been googling and it seems others get it. Also without explanation. Very strange.

Could be diverticulitis . Your GP should be doing more tests if it’s very painful.

My GP did mention diverticulitis. No other symptoms though and really not that painful.
