Pelvic Floor

(Did try to run a search for this but it came up with over 500 results, so gave up - this has probably been done a zillion times before, sorry!)

Gave birth to dc2 in March. At my post-natal check, the dr said my pelvic floor was very weak and I need to start doing regular exercises. When she did the internal exam and checked my pelvic floor, she said that I am also clenching my tummy muscles and this is effectively working against myself.

Trouble is, (and I realise this sounds silly) I can't quite get my head around how to do pelvic floor exercises. I know what to do in principle and I clench, but I have no idea if it's the right thing I'm clenching and I still have the problem of tensing my tummy at the same time.

Does anyone have any tips etc for helping me figure out how I'm supposed to be doing this? (Didn't do any pelvic floor exercises after dc1 but really want to get started now.)

Try stopping a wee - mid flow as this is the muscle to tighten. You will find this hard - but it will show you what area to clench!!

Thanks! Much harder than I realised, will have to keep practising.

or get a pelivs toner...mine was a huge help (the electric one, not the one you squeeze, very hard to master in the early days)

agree w. electric one, they're very uselful and not too expensive any more. Also, ask for a referral to a gynae physio you will be able to teach you proper exercises.
