Anyone awake? Indigestion so bad I thought it was a heart attack

TW

I've managed to drop half a stone the last couple of weeks mostly by cutting out all the 'treats' (cakes, wine, chips, all the good stuff) and upping the fruit, salad and veg.

So when I came to visit mum today I thought it would be fine to have some indulgences. Well, quite a lot as we both like chocolate, cheese, g&t ...

Unfortunately my insides thought otherwise. Massive farty bloating, and as the evening went on, getting more and more uncomfortable and then definite upper abdominal pain later on. Obviously started googling, hence wondering if possible heart attack...

Until I was mega sick about half an hour ago.

And feel So. Much. Better.

I'm 62. I just can't eat like I used to and I know this and tell myself this. Yet here I am, pigging out when I'm making an actual effort to lose weight that's having an effect, and not identifying whats actually happening as the consequences of my own greed.

Tomorrow is another day. Back on the sensible eating plan.

Night all.

I don’t want to any in any way cause you panic OP but my dad had similar symptoms to this and sadly passed away a week later. I’d recommend going to A&E for an ECG just to be on the safe side. I am sure you’ll be fine OP but better to be safe than sorry.

I had heart burn so bad once that I had to call and ambulance and they gave me morphine at the hospital. It was so awful. I now don’t eat the yolks of eggs as that’s shah caused it. I also thought I was having a heart attack ( bad hearts in our family ). U have my sympathy it’s horrid.

No chance it was gall bladder pain? That can be off the scale and usually eases after a few hours and vomiting.

SouthernNights59 · 01/08/2025 05:01

I feel your pain OP. I used to say I had a cast iron stomach, now in my 60s I have to be careful about what I eat (I also have gallstones) - and I hate it!

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 01/08/2025 05:07

I had a sensation like someone aiming a red hot poker through my chest, from back to front. I was advised to go to A&E to rule out a heart attack. After some morphine, tests and an ultrasound, my gallbladder was removed that night.

Hope everyone is well, especially after those experiences!

I instantly felt miles better 'afterwards' and slept well as I was so tired out by it all.

Fine this morning. Actually hungry...
Moderation, self control, water.

I experience similar if I eat late or have a larger meal than normal. I think I need gravity to help my digestion! It feels awful in the moment but I have found sitting up for a while and sipping water can help.

Sounds like gallbladder. Go to GP. They'll organise an ultrasound for you.

JFDIYOLO · 01/08/2025 14:26

I will do the GP thing.
