Sore skin

My Nan keeps complaining of a pain around the bottom of her rib cage on one side. She says it’s not an internal pain but rather the skin is sore to touch and she doesn’t like anything touching it, not even clothes. There’s nothing visible on the skin either. The doctors aren’t being much help so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of what could be causing this pain? It’s been present for around 4 months now.

thanks in advance.

Is she very thin? A bit of a shot in the dark but could it be iliocostal friction syndrome? Google for more details obviously but it's where the rib and the pelvis rub together.

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it. She’s of average size and says it’s not an internal pain (which I would imagine that pain would feel like).

It is possible to have long-lasting shingles with no rash, but it’s pretty unusual.

Have a Google and see if it might possibly match? It’s a long shot though.
