Hi, does anybody have any experience of this? My mother is being tested for it and I’m feeling very anxious, so would appreciate if anybody has experience if it. Thanks.

Lepto (Weil’s disease) is quite rare in humans. It’s usually found in dogs / rats / farm animals and transmitted directly from them or it can be found in the soil/water from their urine. It infects the blood and can be mild to severe. No direct experience of it, just general knowledge through animal husbandry and fishing!

What makes the Drs think your mum may have it?

@JellyBeanSpring25 she lines in a rat-infested house and is presenting with headache, red eyes, nausea, vomiting and (slightly) high temperature.

Those symptoms and the fact she has rats, would certainly warrant a Lepto test. Hopefully, if it is, a good hard dose of antibiotics will catch it before it gets serious.

What's the longer term plan? The rats need to be dealt with and Lepto will recur (and more significant issues will arise). Good luck!
